After Forever, Within Temptation, Sirenia and Tristania so far the gothic metal.

Also nice are: Finntroll, Siebenbürgen, Thyrfing, early Vintersorg, Demons & Wizards, Heather Nova, Muse.

Not to forget: The Scarr, by Pete Johansen is really master art.
The same for Morgul. The Horror Grandeur is extraordinary, also partly due to Pete J

TSOTB of course not mentioned, because this is really a couple of levels better than the previous bands mentioned

I can't believe I forgot Sirenia.

I was going to ask if anyone had heard any of Pete Johansen's other stuff to see how good it is.

Actually, i found 'Sirenian Shores' rather a dissappointment. Whereas Morten Veland has left Tristania because of the other members bothered too much about money, i would start to think Morten made the same mistake here... But who am i to judge about that.

About the Pete Johansen stuff...

This is really a difficult question! He has participated in over 50 albums, and these are not only metal or gothic metal! He has played for TSOTB, Sirenia and Tristania, and also for Morgul. I don't know how much he wrote his own lines here.

He's also played in rather folky bands. In earlier times there was Bernad Jenkins, later The Tramps. At the moment there is www.rhinos.no. Another band with rather much albums brought out is Modesty Blaise, started by himself in the early 90's (i think).

For me personally, the summum of his musical talent was shown in his project "The Scarr". This music is very 'special'. I needed more than one listening to appreciate the music, but at one moment you understand this is really an extraordinary album. There was also a website, www.thescarr.com , but it's offline now. Happily, i have saved the most of it on my pc, when i have the time (and the webspace!) i can put it online for the interested people.

In this project, Pete could really show how great his own talent is. On his website, he shows himself as a rather eccentric person, with a clear and honest view on life.

He's just good!

Yeah pretty much the same as everyone else here, love female fronted bands! Nightwish are my all time fav!

Hey you guys all seem big on the Female fronted dark bands! thats great, i think i'm am more attracted to a band if they have a female lead..

anyone here heard of Season's End? There a english band i had the pleasure of seeing at the 13th gig, really good.. should check em out

anyone else have any recommondations?

I'm a Season's End fan but they have never played up in Scotland (to my knowledge) and I'm not rich enough to travel down south. Oh and no-one I know will have heard of them or bother to listen to them.

Erben der Schöpfung with the Album "Twilight"
Great CD!!!

Today it is called Elis and the two Albums "God's Silence Devil's Temptation" and "Dark clouds in a perfect sky" are recommendable.

The Lyrics are in german and in englisch. Top female Voice from Sabine Dünser. The Band come from Lichtenstein and Schweiz.

I like them, especially the older work, but it's nowhere near the level of the Sins, unfortunately ...

The only band that comes close to TSOTB is Draconian (www.draconian.se). They are not as original as TSOTB, they are just another Gothic/Doom band, but an exceptional one at that. I think there most outstanding quality is that you can hear the sorrow and pain in each and every song, they are so sad. My personal favourite songs are "It Grieves, My Heart" "Daylight Misery" "Death, Come Near Me" "The Cry Of Silence" and "The Everlasting Scar", is there anyone else out there who shares my love of this wonderful band...?

wow, if i would mention every band or artist i like, i think i'd be busy for some time :p

I'm into lots of styles of music. I like electronic music, metal, etc... etc... I just love music, as long as it sounds good I listen to it. Most of the music i lasten to has a dark mood in it I must admit. But I can also listen to techno, trance, pop, etc... Except for rap and r&b, that makes me puke :s

Wow i think most of the bands i like have been mentioned here. Even some i didnt think many people knew about, eg Battlelore (looks at Igraine). But i guess it just shows my southern hemisphere mentality. Beside Gothic Metal i like Black/Doom/Industrial metal. i Also enjoy Ebm/Industrial/Goth/Darkwave/Neo-Classical/Classical.
